I first heard about this kid from two of my younger cousins and they would always tell me that this rapper from L.A, who goes by the name of Ken Malik, is “up next” and that should really listen to his music.
I kept his name in mind, but didn’t really want to post until he had some new body of music that I could listen and get a full scope of what he’s about.
Yesterday, the young rapper dropped his new 16-track mixtape titled “My Mental Diary”, which is brought to us through Ken Malik’s mentor and friend, rapper Nipsey Hussle’s All Money In label. Nip has been very vocal about Ken Malik and has reffered to him as “The next rapper up out of L.A”.
Upon first listen of Ken Malik’s new mix tape, I was immidately hit with comparisons to another hot rapper out of Cali with a similar name –Yup, Kendrick Lamar– not, because of the subject matter or anything, mainly just his voice and rap style. It reminded me of the old K.dot from the “Kendrick Lamar LP”, but Ken definitely has his own lane . It features great production by Nigel and tracks that you can really vibe to.
